Richard is unnerved to learn that the D'Harans have captured his birth village.

Richard returns to his birthplace in the village of Brennidon but is unnerved to find it under siege with D'Haran soldiers. Shock comes when a woman claims to be Richard's birth mother: Brigid and he has a brother, Mark. After witnessing a woman almost get killed for voicing her mind about Lord Rahl, Richard is determined to save his village. As every home is searched for the Seeker, Richard's brother locks him up and leads the guards to him. Having escaped, Richard leaves to get the aid from Zedd and Kahlan until being told that all mothers are being taken with the potential that one be the Seeker's and lure him out. Running back he confronts his brother and both devise a plan to save the village. Meanwhile, Zedd must convince a woman that the son she claims be his is not and finds assist in Kahlan to find the truth without her touch. In the process, Zedd reveals a dark secret he has kept hidden. When both find out where Richard is they rush off to Brennidon to where he's about to be executed with his own sword. Mark quickly kills the D'Haran as the town folk begin throwing food and objects at the D'Haran's. When Kahlan arrives both her and Richard fend off and kill the D'Haran's. Brigid claims not to be Richard's mother but that his real mother is out there somewhere and looking for him. As they leave, Zedd tells Kahlan that Richard must never know that he's Richard's grandfather.

A girl is found stabbed to death in the woods, and her best friend is missing. She is found covered in blood with a knife in her hand, which makes her the prime suspect, but she is suffering from memory loss. Patrick Jane uses his mentalist skills to help find out what really happened.

Jason Sands, a wealthy banker and political contributor is found dead inside his residence vault. After being tortured, he had bled to death in his vault. Patrick and the team delve into Jason's private life to find the murderer.

A drowned girl's body is found on the Santa Marta beach, and many of her surfer friends are suspects. When interviews lead to nothing, Patrick uses his skills to determine and catch the killer.

The CBI is called in to investigate the murder of a young woman, found tied up and dumped in a Northern Napa County vineyard. Lisbon focuses on the theory that this was the result of a lovers' quarrel, but Jane believes this may be the work of a serial killer. He investigates his own theories and gets the team's assistance with a plan to catch the killer.

The Mentalist tells the tale of Patrick Jane, who is employed as an independent detective working with the California Bureau of Investigation to solve crimes. He was making a living as a psychic and would assist the police on cases -- only his life changed when he lost the two most important people in his life to one of those serial killers he was helping track. He uses his refined observation skills to help them solve cases. He works with Senior Agent Teresa Gibson, Agents Kimball Cho & Wayne Rigsby and the rookie Grace Van Pelt.

Episode 1: Pilot

This episode introduces us to the complex life of Patrick Jane, a police detective with a troubled past who has a keen eye for detail. When a man and woman are found dead in their home, many believe they are victims of a serial killer, but Patrick knows better and must prove that this was not the work of Red John.

Brainiac strikes and replaces Chloe's memories with Kryptonian code. In order to help his best friend, Clark must ask for Jor-El's help, forced to take her to the Fortress of Solitude so that Jor-El can restore her memories. Meanwhile, Davis tries to get Chloe to understand that Jimmy is wrong for her.

Darken Rahl, a tyrant who wants to expand his empire into the Midlands, sends soldiers to obtain the Book of Counted Shadows, which is in the possession of a Confessor named Kahlan Amnell. Kahlan crosses the magical boundary into Westland, a land of no magic, in search of a wizard. In Westland, Kahlan meets Richard Cypher, a woodsman who helps her escape the soldiers. Kahlan finds the wizard, Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, and insists that he take her to the Seeker. Richard, who was sent by his father to Zedd, meets them and discovers that he is the Seeker, the person prophesied to defeat Rahl. One of the soldiers, Fane, kills Richard's father and takes the Book of Counted Shadows from Richard.

After accepting the role of the Seeker, Richard formulates a plan with Zedd, Kahlan and his friend Chase to find Fane. Darken Rahl attempts to bring the magical boundary that separates the Midlands and Westland down to allow Fane to return with the Book of Counted Shadows. Fane kidnaps Chase's daughter and forces a sorceress to give him the Night Stone to cross the boundary. Richard and Kahlan pursue Fane to the boundary, where Richard kills him and retrieves the Book. Meanwhile, Rahl's soldiers destroy the boundary. Richard throws the Book into a fire to stop the soldiers from taking it. Together with Kahlan, he defeats them. Having recovered from his injury, Zedd joins Richard and Kahlan as they set off into the Midlands.

Richard, Kahlan and Zedd are attacked by a band of mercenaries, one of whom, they find, was carrying a map that tracks Richard's location. Soon after they discover that Darken Rahl is offering a reward for capture of the Seeker, a woman named Lilly asks for their help to save her brother from the Shadrin, a mythical monster. When the group finds yet another map tracking Richard, Zedd sets off to find the mapmaker Sebastian. Richard and Kahlan follow Lilly to find her brother but it turns out to be a trap. Lilly wanted to exchange Richard for her brother, who is to be executed by the Rahl's soldiers. Meanwhile, Zedd warns the mapmaker not to make any more maps to track the Seeker. He returns in time to save Richard and Kahlan from capture. Richard helps Lilly's brother escape. In return, Lilly helps to spread word that the Seeker is here to help them.
